On December 26th, iCAUR announced that its V23 has received a 5-star safety rating from ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries). As the first boxy vehicle to achieve a 5-star rating, this milestone marks a significant achievement for iCAUR in vehicle safety and quality.
ASEAN NCAP is a trusted and recognized safety assessment system in Southeast Asia. Its evaluation covers four areas: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA), and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). The iCAUR V23 has received a 5-star rating in all four categories, demonstrating that the V23 meets international standards in body structure, safety design, and both active and passive safety features.
In the AOP category, the V23 achieved an excellent score of 31.77 points, with a score rate of 99%. In the 40% frontal impact test at 64km/h against a deformable aluminum barrier, the front airbags deployed immediately, and the high-voltage system was safely shut down. The battery pack remained fully secure and intact, showing no signs of smoke, fire, or leakage. The hazard warning lights activated as designed, and the A/B/C/D pillars retained their structural integrity. The passenger cabin was preserved, and the doors unlocked and opened normally, providing full protection for the occupants. The V23 also successfully passed the 50km/h side impact test, earning a full 8 points. In this test, the vehicle was struck by a moving barrier weighing 950kg and measuring 500mm in height and 1,500mm in width. The side airbags deployed precisely and on time, ensuring ample survival space for the occupants.
The secret behind V23’s excellent performance is its strong body and complete safety system. 18% of the body is made of hot-stamped steel, and high-strength steel makes up 70% of the car. The entire lineup comes standard with six airbags and is equipped with pretensioning, load-limiting seat belts for both front and rear seats. In frontal, side, and rollover scenarios, these features provide all-around protection for the occupants.
COP is another important part of ASEAN NCAP. It tests whether a car can fit child safety seats sold locally and keep children as safe as possible in a crash. The tests use child seats for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children. The V23 scored 42.5 points in this test, showing excellent performance.
In the SA category, the iCAUR V23 is equipped with a 1V3R perception system, which includes one front-facing 8MP camera and three millimeter-wave radars. When the system detects a risk of impact it provides reliable input for the AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) function. Thanks to this complete set of safety assist features, the V23 scored 18 points in this category and achieved full marks in both AEB City and AEB Inter-Urban tests.
In ASEAN countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, motorcycle riders make up 80% of all road users. Traffic accident data shows that more than 50% of all road deaths involve motorcycles. Therefore, besides crash tests, ASEAN NCAP also evaluates vehicle blind spot detection to protect motorcyclists. In this test, the V23’s BSD (Blind Spot Detection) system played an important role, scoring 14 points, with 8 points in the BSD category. The system uses millimeter-wave radars on both sides of the rear bumper to continuously monitor the areas behind and beside the vehicle. When another vehicle enters the blind spot and poses a risk, the side mirror warning lights announce the driver. If the turn signal is on while a vehicle is in the blind spot, the system also gives sound and flashing warnings, reminding the driver to stop changing lanes.
iCAUR V23 achieved a total score of 91.02 points, surpassing the PERODUA TRAZ at 86.86 points, and significantly ahead of the Toyota Yaris with 83.02 points and the Mitsubishi DESTINATOR with 77.27 points.
